A very common misconception when it comes to planning your Wedding is;

“We don’t need an MC as one is included in our package for free”
Ok I admit FREE sounds great, however let me tell you one of my recent experiences at a Wedding Venue where the MC duties are handled by the Hotel Event Manager.

The Wedding Breakfast had just finished and it was time for arguably the most anticipated part of the whole day… The speeches!
The Hotel’s Event Manager entered the room and said “Ladies and Gentlemen could I have your attention please. It is now time for the speeches”. He spoke loudly, with confidence and clarity. The father of the bride gave his speech, then his new son-in-law took over before finally it was the turn of the Best Man.
So you may be thinking to yourself that sounds perfectly fine. The problem was that their was no microphone or PA system provided by the hotel. This is really important because a lot of people are not confident public speakers and on this occasion people were struggling to hear the father of the bride across the room. There was also no introductions from the Event Manager meaning no round of applause or cheers for each speaker… They kind of just spoke one after the other. Sadly, when you are promised an MC from the venue, this task often lands in the lap of the event manager on duty on that day who will not have the correct experience of working as an MC.
When a trained and experienced Wedding Master of Ceremonies like me introduce the speeches, it is a completely different thing.  Having had thorough contact with all my clients, I know the bride and bridegroom, I know their tastes and likes, and the style of their wedding day.  I introduce each speaker in turn, and thank them for their speeches, the audience clap and cheer, and I use their names in my introductions – it has to be the very least that our clients expect right?  Oh, and guess what?  I also make sure everyone knows the speeches are due to start, including all the other professionals such as videographers, photographers etc….  Imagine for a moment how much better the wedding I spoke about above could have been!
